Garrard & Co. sterling silver matching dinner suite of tableware in the celebrated Kings pattern from the 20th century, consisting of : - a pair of cut glass butter dishes with silver undertrays, lids and a pair of spreaders (depth of the undertrays is 5 3/4'') - a pair of sauce boats, standing on 3 feet, measuring 8'' in length - a set of 4 open salt cellars standing on 3 feet, with cobalt glass liners, measuring 2 3/4'' in depth, with 4 salt spoons - a set of 4 salt and pepper shakers, standing on 4 feet, measuring 4 3/4'' in height - a set of 4 mustard pots with cobalt glass liners, measuring 4 3/4'' in length, with mustard spoons Total weight is 95.1 troy ounces. Hallmarks are shown. The founder of the Garrard firm was John Wickes in 1722. In 1802 Robert Garrard Sr. took control of the firm. In 1818 he was succeeded by his three eldest sons. In 1952 the firm was amalgamated with Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd. Garrard merged with the prestigious jewelry firm Asprey in 1998 to become Asprey & Garrard. Garrard was crown jeweller since 1735 when George Wickes was appointed as goldsmith to the Prince of Wales. The 19th century continued with a succession of famous commissions for Royalty and in 1843 Queen Victoria bestowed the honour of Crown Jeweller on the company.
