Buying with confidence
Questions & Answers
A few things collectors often ask before acquiring a piece. If your question isn’t here, telephone or write to us, you are always dealing with the family directly.
Buying & reserving
Almost always. We deal in antique and estate silver, so most pieces are unique, once one is reserved or sold it is removed from availability. A handful of items, such as sets, exist in small numbers, which we note on the piece.
Add the piece to your selection and proceed through our secure checkout, or simply call or write to us and we will reserve it, confirm availability and arrange delivery personally. For significant pieces, many collectors prefer to speak with us first, we are glad to.
Yes. Adding a piece to your selection holds it there for you, and if you need a little longer to decide, telephone or email us and we will set it aside. Because each piece is one of one, we do this gladly rather than see it leave.
We do. Tell us the maker, pattern, period or form you are looking for and we will watch for it on your behalf, sourcing by request is a large part of how the family has always worked.
Authenticity & condition
Yes. Every piece is examined, weighed and attributed by hand before it is offered, and we stand personally behind the maker, period and description. We buy only what we would be proud to keep ourselves.
Condition is described plainly and honestly, and hallmarks are shown wherever they are present. If you would like additional photographs of a detail, a hallmark or an engraving, write to us and we will send them the same day where we can.
We hand-polish every piece before it leaves us. If you would prefer a professional polishing, or the removal of an old monogram or engraving, we can arrange that for an additional charge, with a short delay before shipping.
Shipping, insurance & collection
Yes. Pieces are packed by specialists and shipped fully insured for their full value, to collectors across the United States and internationally. International delivery and any documentation are arranged on your behalf.
You are always welcome to view and collect at our gallery, Manhattan Art & Antiques Center, Gallery 91, 1050 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10022. Please call ahead so we can have the piece ready for you.
Most domestic pieces ship within a few business days of your order, once any requested polishing is complete. For a specific delivery timeline, or expedited or international delivery, contact us and we will confirm the details.
Payment & returns
Online orders are handled through secure checkout accepting major cards and Apple Pay. For significant acquisitions we are also glad to arrange payment by bank transfer; contact us and we will make it simple.
Yes. Payment is processed through our commerce provider’s secure, encrypted checkout. We never see or store your card details on our own systems.
We want you to be certain. If a piece is not as described, contact us within fourteen days of receipt and we will make it right. As each item is unique, we ask that a returned piece come back in the same condition in which it left us.
Selling your silver
We do. For over forty years we have purchased fine antique and modern silver, single pieces and complete estates, for private collectors, families and institutions, with honest, no-obligation evaluations.
Call or email us with a few photographs and whatever you know about the pieces. We will assess quality, rarity, maker and current market value and give you a fair figure. There is no need to polish anything first.
