Alvin Sterling Silver & Enamel Flask in Art Deco Style from Early 20th Century
Alvin sterling silver flask in Art Deco style with an elegant, geometric design, from the early 20th century. With an applied plaque showing a rooster in black enamel and an integrated shot glass which itself is gilt inside, it measures 6 5/8'' by 4 3/8'' by 1'', weighs 9.5 troy ounces, can contain up to 12 fluid ounces (354 mL) and bears hallmarks as shown.
Founded in 1886, just 11 years later, Alvin, maker of Official World Fair souvenir spoons for 1893-94 Chicago Columbian Exposition, was purchased by Joseph Fahys & Co, a watch-case manufacturer, operating as a branch until 1910. In 1919 the name changed to Alvin Silver Co until 1928 when assets, dies and patterns were purchased by prestigious maker Gorham.
